Vaccine preventable diseases keep showing up; why? If you are a nurse working in Public and Community Health you know part of the answer to this dilemma. If you are honest with yourself you know that the "cold chain" is too often broken.
I have worked delivering immunizations to children and adults and I have seen first hand how nurses working for Health Canada and the VON did not take proper precautions to maintain the cold chain. I doubt nurses are the only guilt parties here though. I all looks good on paper but the reality of transport and storage of vaccines is that the ability to maintain proper care can easily be broken by unfortunate circumstance and deliberate means.
